DevLog-1

Story

Asia wakes to find herself in the middle of a nightmare. She is smaller than all the toys she has in her room, and they're trying to take over her toy castle! Her cat is asleep atop the tower, is powerless to stop the invaders. It's up to Asia and her friends to protect the castle and wake up the cat. Her size makes it difficult to fight the enemies, so she must use her toy guns and her power-ups to fight them! She might even find a super powerful water gun to help her...

Setting

Trapped as mini-sized version of herself, she must use whatever toys available to aid in her quest. In her first few minutes in, she discovered eating Barbie foods are a surprisingly good way to get new power-ups and a decent amount of health back. She also discovered small arms aren't good for holding much, so she has to be smart about the few things she can carry.

Mechanics

The mechanics are simple. Think Risk of Rain 2 meets Uncharted’s co-op arenas. The player stars in a medium-sized arena with nothing but a gun. You have a few seconds to explore and get to the siege area. The player must stay in the siege area or they will not complete the objective. The player then faces challenges from every direction and must survive a set number of waves before they can move on to the next chapter of the story.

Player points are calculated based on how quickly a player can survive a wave and how quickly the player can kill an enemy. The goal is to get as many points as possible given the time-constraint.

Art Assets

I’m particularly fond of the asset for Asia. When we first envisioned the game and made it a 2D prototype, we never put any costumes on Asia. This idea of putting armor on her and gives her a stylized look and expands the play types of based on her equipped skin.

I’m also particularly fond of this skybox material we found— it's so magical and dreamy. It adds a nice touch to the feel of the scene.
